Jennings O’Donovan provided comprehensive consulting engineering services for the development of high-specification sports infrastructure in the North West, notably the Kinlough Multi-Purpose Recreational Facility (MPRF) and the Ursuline Hockey Pitch. Working in conjunction with Leitrim County Council and local community stakeholders, the Kinlough project delivered a state-of-the-art 600m² playing area designed to meet FAI Guidance Document Standards. The facility features a versatile multi-use surface marked for basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and Gaelic football.
The engineering scope for the Kinlough MPRF involved significant site development works, including precision sub-base preparation, a specialized drainage system to ensure year-round playability, and the installation of professional-grade floodlighting. The perimeter is secured by a high-durability fencing system with reinforced strut supports and universal access gates. This project was successfully delivered under the Public Works Contract for Civil Engineering Works, adhering to the rigorous procurement guidelines of the Department of Public Expenditure.
For the Ursuline Hockey Pitch, the focus was on providing a high-performance synthetic surface suitable for competitive hockey. Both projects required detailed site investigations, risk assessments, and technical supervision to ensure the finished surfaces met the specific bounce and friction requirements of their respective sports. Jennings O’Donovan managed the full project lifecycle, from initial layout drawings and tender evaluation to the final handover of the Safety File and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Our design philosophy for these recreational facilities prioritizes durability and low maintenance, ensuring that local authorities and community groups receive a long-term asset. Through proactive contract administration and financial management, we ensured both facilities were delivered as economically advantageous solutions that meet the diverse needs of modern schools and local sports clubs.
