Tente Factory Expansion, Sligo

DATE AWARDED
January 2017
CAPACITY
2,713m² Total Extension

Jennings O’Donovan is providing comprehensive engineering and project management services for the significant expansion of the Tente Ltd manufacturing facility in Ballymote, Co. Sligo. As a major employer in the region operating 24-hour cycles, Tente required a strategic expansion to its existing infrastructure—originally established in 1978—to facilitate future business growth and increased production capacity.

The structural scope of the project involves two major extensions: a 1,576m² addition to the Mould Workshop and a 1,137m² extension to the Warehouse building. Both structures are engineered using high-specification structural steel portal frames supported by pad or strip foundations. The design incorporates suspended concrete ground floors, gantry beams for industrial operations, and a building envelope consisting of composite roof sheeting and cladded wall panels to match the existing facility’s aesthetic and functional requirements.

In addition to the primary structures, the project encompasses extensive ancillary civil engineering works. This includes the design and construction of new car parking facilities, reinforced hardstanding areas for logistics, and a comprehensive suite of underground services. Critical site infrastructure such as site retaining walls, access ramps, and a specialized oil bund were also integrated into the site plan to ensure operational safety and environmental compliance.

Jennings O’Donovan’s role extends across the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and planning procurement to detailed structural design and technical supervision. Our team is also acting as the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP), ensuring that all elements of the expansion—from the reinforced concrete design to the complex gantry beam integrations—adhere to the highest safety and engineering standards.
